Here comes the long overdue review post about the triple camera Samsung Galaxy A7 2018 Edition. I've got the Blue Color Samsung Galaxy A7 with me and played with me for month before I can justify on the camera quality. Hence below will have a series of photos taken using the Galaxy A7 (2018) and my main focus would be about the new addition of Ultra wide-angle 8MP camera, why and where you will need the extra wider view for photoshoot.

I shall give a quick conclusion of my Galaxy A7 (2018) user experience in points below:

• A well hidden fingerprint sensor at the power button area that I just noticed recently. It was not at the back/front of the screen but at the convenient place of the power button. All I need to do is place my thumb on it.
• Triple Camera with 8MP Wide Camera being the most useful addition to A series, followed by the 5MP camera for Live Focus
• Overall phone performance is good, can play games well. (Eg. Ragnarok M Eternal Love)
• Overall camera HDR function is superb, especially when it able to detect human faces and photo still looks overall good even if it is backlight (eg. sunset). Check out the photos below
• Live Focus effect with blur/bokeh background is good, but it is not perfect in differentiate the object and background yet. The background and lighting condition will justify the result
• Scene Optimiser smart camera mode that helps enhance to make your photos look much better in just one click.
• AR Emoji - Emoji creator that you have at Samsung S series smartphone to create customized emojis
• 128GB huge built In memory, can insert additional Micro SD Card up to 512 GB. 
• 6.0” FHD+ Super AMOLED Infinity Display good for visual content viewing experience.
• Can put Dual Sim cards beside an additional Micro SD Cards, makes travel to oversea easier.
• With Dolby Atmos Audio Experience (works with earphone and bluetooth headset)
• Phone cover is provided in the Manual Box, no need to shop for new case to protect your phone
• With new OS update, it now has Super Slowmo feature, can adjust exposure for Wide Angle camera (previous version can't)
• Almost all phones are with USB-C charging port but A7 2018 still using the normal USB Port. No fast-charge features unfortunately. 
• The Super Slowmo doesn't have auto capture mode. Hence harder to capture that split seconds of slow motion if you missed it. However it is good that Samsung included it.
• Lowlight photos are pretty great, check out the photos below. Tips: Snap a few more time to make sure you've got clear shot.
• Has earphone jack - You know what I mean
• Camera doesn't have OIS, so you need to train your hands for consistent stable shots.
• Affordable retail price at only RM1299 RM1,099 (They have revised the price recently). Can buy it online at only RM1050.

Samsung Galaxy A7 (2018) Camera Review:

I like the triple cameras because it offers me the flexibility to capture wider view of the scenery and building. And also because of the super wide angel, there are barrel effect (some kind of image distortion) that you might want to correct it with photography apps (especially for architectural shots).  Highly recommended using Adobe Lightroom and Snapseed to help you further enhance the photos. Now let's check out a series of photos taken using the Galaxy A7 (2018).

As a selfie lover using DSLR, I figured that Samsung Galaxy A7 (2018) is a good camera phone for selfie too. All thanks to the 8MP wide angle rear camera with 120 degree view. Do note that there will be some distortion at the side so remember to put yourself  in the center part of the frame.

You can always remove the distortion through Adobe Lightroom and some photography apps.

On the first day, I brought this phone to KL for some test shoot and shooting long exposure of the train tunnel is a must. The camera PRO Mode a.k.a. Manual Mode is not as customizable as the Galaxy S series Samsung phone (You can control White Balance, Shutter Speed and even change lens aperture on Note 9). On the A7, you can only adjust Exposure, ISO and White Balance. Therefore, it is best to use the Auto and Scene Optimizer mode because these two mode are smart enough to create most kind of images. Do always bear in mind that this phone is selling at very affordable price.

Samsung Galaxy A7 (2018) Low light Performance

The low light performance of this Samsung smartphone is considered above average as it provide brighter photos in the end. Here's some photos taken indoor and low light conditions. Remember to adjust the exposure accordingly to avoid under/over exposed photos. Sometimes I am quite surprised with how the photos turn out in the end.

Live Focus on Samsung Galaxy A7 (2018) 

If compared with the first version of Live Focus, the AI technology is getting smarter nowadays and can differentiate the object and background. However, it is not 100% perfect yet hence gotta find the right object and clear background to get natural shot with blur background provided by the camera.

The new AI feature of Samsung smartphone is the 'Scene Optimiser' which can detect 19 customization modes. For example, your food photo will looks more vibrant and appealing automatically when you use this mode.

You'll love your selfie camera with 24 MP. Which means your selfie is in higher resolution. With the Smart Beauty, Pro Lighting, and all sorts of beauty features, one can easily look presentable and even flawless in their selfies. But remember, don't overdo it as it might hinder your beautiful features too.

Important photography tips when using Samsung Galaxy A7 (2018) 

Since one of the biggest improvement is the Ultra wide camera, we should always make full use of the camera for different angle/viewpoint of photography. I used the Ultra Wide camera for architectural photo or place with beautiful scenery. I also use it to selfie with friends although I couldn't see what's on the screen. It is still worth a try and you will able to take beautiful selfie photos using the new A7 camera.

I will share lots more photos taken using the Ultra Wide angle. You'll see why it is better with ultra wider camera with 120 degree of viewpoint.

To be honest, I was very surprised at how Samsung Galaxy A7 (2018) process the photo. The shooting condition was sunset behind us, but the photo HDR mode will auto enable when it detect human faces and yet preserve the highlight and details. With that, I give this camera phone a big thumbs up.

What I wish A7 (2018) could improve

My only complaint about this Galaxy A7 (2018) camera is that they don't have OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) like Note 9 does. Hence you gotta take a few more shots at night to prevent blur shots okie? But well, with that price point I believe you get what you paid for.

Should you get the Galaxy A7 (2018) or A9 (2018)?

It all depends on your budget for new phones actually. If you have extra RM700 to invest in your new phone, you will get ONE more powerful camera on your phone. The 10MP 2x Zoom Camera for clearer view from far, extra 500mAh battery life, 2GB RAM which means better phone performance. Fingerprint sensor at rear instead of the side. Most importantly, it has fast charging features on the A9. It also comes is more color and much more hipster design (Caviar Black, Lemonade Blue, Bubblegum Pink).

It seems like one gonna be outdated soon if their phone don't have ultra wide angle lens
