7 Things To Do In FRIM Kepong, Kuala Lumpur |
As a person who spent his childhood in an estate, I love exploring the nature and doing variety of outdoor activities during my free time. Rich variety of flora and fauna that I can find in the jungle is just amazing. I've been exploring new places and share things that I did at this blog. So today, I would like to bring you to a road trip to Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) @ Kepong with a photo story.
Let's check out adventurous things that I did in FRIM shall we??

1. Jogging At Rover Track
The Rover Track is a dirt road which approximately follows the 170m contour on the slopes towards the summits of Bukit Beruang (401m) and Bukit Nolang (439m). It is a very popular track for joggers.I took this route as that's the fastest way to reach the entrance of Canopy Walkway. Bumped into many joggers while on the way up, listening to the buzzing sound of the summer insects and birds. I heard hornbills too!!

2. Challenge Yourself At Canopy Walkway
I love to do adventurous stuff so walking at the high of 30 metres above ground is kinda thrilling for me. Remember to get your tickets for Canopy Walkway at FRIM One Stop Centre (Building Block D6) before you climbed all the way up to the entrance. Or else... You would have missed out.Luckily the security guard told me to buy my ticket first at the D6 Building =D
The Entrance Fee for Canopy Walkway is RM10 for Non-Malaysian and RM5 for Malaysian.

Don't look down if you are afraid of height, but you should really do that to enjoy that thrill and adrenaline pump |

Operating hours are subject to weather conditions (the canopy walkway will be closed when it rains and re-opened within 2 hours after the rain has subsided and when the weather is clear. My recent visit to FRIM the Canopy Walkway was under maintenance, so do check their website if it is reopen to prevent disappointment.
All visitors including those interested to go on the canopy walkway are advised to check the Air Pollution Index (API) (http://apims.doe.gov.my/apims/ ) before coming to FRIM.
Please note that the canopy walkway will be closed when the 7.00AM API readings, posted on the above mentioned website, show above 150 for Batu Muda, Kuala Lumpur.
New friends that I made on the tree top. Always good to have someone take awesome photo for you right? Haha |
FRIM Kepong Canopy Walkway will be closed from 30 June 2017 |
Continuous inspections by FRIM arborists indicate a decline in the health of the trees that can affect the safety of the walkway structure. Therefore it is with heavy heart that FRIM decides to close it once and for all for public safety as well as to allow the supporting trees to heal and the surrounding forest to regenerate.
Therefore guys, do drop by FRIM Kepong Tree Top Canopy Walkway before it close on 30 June. It was beautiful up there and I am sad that it is closing soon.
3. Have a lunch break at the waterfall downstream
When you finish exploring the Treetop Canopy, you will be walking downhill and finally reach a mini waterfall. There is a long stretch of waterfall all the way down and you can see people doing yoga at the side. Most of us brought food (eg. Nasi lemak and breads) and drinks so we took the time to have a rest at here and filling our stomach at the same time.I did some slow-shutter shots at the waterfall and found a cute frog on the stone. That was the first time I saw this beautiful creature other than through National Geographic TV Channel. That's one of the amazing moments I love in FRIM.

4. Continue your journey with more trekking, pay attention to your surrounding
After taking a good rest near the waterfall, it is time to continue your journey in the forest. Instead of rushing yourself to the next destination, try to be in that moment observe what's around you. Listen to the chirping birds, summer insects, sometimes you can see the tiny little things that you don't usually see. I saw tadpoles, frog eggs, and mushroom that grow around the tree roots. Those tiny little black dots with tails are cute tadpoles |

5. Explore the huge FRIM by driving around
While waiting for my nature trekking tour guide time slot at 3.30pm, I drove the car around so that I can explore this amazing place with ease. Make sure to wind down your car windows to enjoy the nice cool breeze in the evening. The air in here smell really fresh although it was a bit hazy out there.Spotted a few beautiful spots for photography and I guess it is not weird to see people who love nature doing wedding photoshoot here. Do note that there will be extra charges if you plan to do commissioned photoshoot here ya, more information on the rate at One Stop Centre.
6. Hire a Nature Guide to Bring you around the forest for Crown Shyness
One of the main reason I wanted to visit FRIM is to check out the tall tree canopies that formed these amazing Crown Shyness. This is another favourite moment that I enjoyed in FRIM.You will need to hire a nature guide (for RM120.00/group) for him to bring you around Salleh Nature Trail/Keruing Trail. So bring some friends to share the cost while enjoy the amazing view together. It won't be easy to find good looking Crown Shyness in the forest all by yourself. Luckily Abang Din, my Nature Guide of the day lead me the way to this beautiful place which I spent half an hour just to enjoy this view. The trees were leaning left and right as a strong wind arrived.

Decided to take a profile picture for him with the amazing Crown Shyness |
I became the forest ranger of the day. The tree root is so huge!! |
If you need a nature guide in FRIM, do request for Abang Din at the FRIM One Stop Centre |
7. Jogging and Catching Sunset At Kepong Botanic Garden
I found this place through the Google Map that showing a huge lake inside FRIM. You can easily reach here by driving and park at the entrance of this Botanic Garden. This place is really serene and quiet at the same time. Other than jogging around the lake, you can actually take a rest at the bench provided at lakeside and catch the sunset.
I saw some people were feeding the fishes in another pond and tons of healthy people jogging in this park. Too bad I was too tired to jog around and decided to just have my relaxing moments near the lakeside.

*********************************************************
Here are some photos taken during my recent jogging a.k.a.photography session with friends. I actually didn't run much because I was carrying my camera bag with a few lenses along. It was heavy and the best way to save energy was to walk fast instead of run fast. So yeah, here some of my favourite photo created together with Tracy, YY and my love one:
FRIM Kepong is a perfect place to jog as you are surrounded with greenery and forest that give you fresh air and shade from the morning sun. I love the smell of the forest and only people who love nature would love it like I do. The only thing I dislike is it is too faraway from way I stay and a few toll to reach here haha
The natural texture on this three trunk is simply beautiful. The tree skill will peel off slowly and reveal this unique design.
When you have friends who are sporting enough, you will able to get them pose for something that I think is awesome. (not sure if they think the same lah but thanks for patience going crazy with me)
One of my favourite photo from the FRIM outing that day. The leave is simply beautiful and represent one out of hundred species of nature habitat in this forest. Spotted huge ants and red mushroom that day too. I was sad when I found out the Canopy Walkway in FRIM was closed for maintenance, or elseI will have beautiful view to share.
You can see a lot people jogging in FRIM or botanical garden kepong (with the signature serene lake as the key attraction). Now you can rent bicycle (for about RM5-RM8) to cycle inside FRIM. I highly recommend you guys to rend a bicycle if you want to explore the whole FRIM area. It is too big to explore all in one day actually. Just recently I figured out they have another waterfall hidden in there. Nice cold water flowing from the mountain and best when you chilling your tired feet in the pool of water.
It seems like the future talented footballer were trained here as well. Saw a bunch of kids training at the open football field.
The green mosses growing on the stones near the waterfall. If you love nature, don't forget to pay visit to their waterfall. You can always bring food to picnic here but just make sure to keep the place clean after usage okay? So that this nature and beautiful place can sustain for your next generation.
Spotted good light for a portrait session in here. Definitely good place for outdoor photoshoot yo. If you guys need photoshoot and wanted an adventure in FRIM. Let me know so we can go for an adventure together kay??

The jogger trio of the day! Rule the road and call it 'My Father's Road' haha
