WHY TM UNIFI SPEED SO SLOW?! It's already year 2016!!

TM UNIFI SPEED SO SLOW!! High Speed Broadband??
TM UNIFI SPEED SO SLOW!! High Speed Broadband??

Did you just subscribed to the brand new 30mbps UNIFI but the internet speed you got is very disappointing and slow like tortoise?? Well you are not alone, last few day I already caught up with the slow Unifi speed especially when I surf YouTube, Facebook and apparently any website from the US are affected. Even my DiGi and Maxis dataplan load Facebook faster than UNIFI!

WHAT HAPPENED TO UNIFI SPEED 2016?? WHY SO SLOW?
Today TM finally did an official announcement about UNIFI's slow speed (which I think hidden in the website until I need to google for it) and the reason why UNIFI users may face difficulty in surfing the internet.

In conclusion, there is a fault on the Asia Submarine Cable Express (ASE) system off Singapore, which affected TM's Cahaya Malaysia submarine cable linking Malaysia to North Asia and the United States. The repair of the submarine cable is scheduled to begin on 25 March and is expected to be completed on 31 March 2016.

Which means we all will need to experience slower and degraded UNIFI internet speed for quite some time...

Below is TM's Official Announcement:

UNIFI's RESTORATION WORKS TO REPAIR SUBMARINE CABLE FAULT

"Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) wishes to announce that our consortium members have detected a fault on the Asia Submarine Cable Express (ASE) system off Singapore, which affected our Cahaya Malaysia submarine cable linking Malaysia to North Asia and the United States. ASE consists of 6 fiber pairs of which TM owns 2 fiber pairs, named as Cahaya Malaysia. We have immediately taken pro-active steps by optimising our networks to reduce congestion and diverting traffic to alternative routes, thus, minimising the impact to our users.
The restoration works requires concerted efforts of all consortium members, and is scheduled to begin on 25 March and is expected to be completed on 31 March 2016. However, we wish to highlight that the restoration works will be subject to weather and sea conditions, identification of the actual location of the fault and the challenges ahead, working at great sea depths and pressure.
During this period, Internet users may experience some degree of service degradation such as slow browsing and high latency while accessing international websites mainly hosted in the United States (US), North Asia and Europe. Customers using Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) and other critical business applications linked to US, North Asia and Europe may also experience some level of service degradation.
We will continue to provide necessary updates on the progress of the restoration works via our official customer support accounts on Twitter @TMConnects as well as on Facebook at Everyone Connects, and will monitor feedback from our customers on the quality of service experienced.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused and would like to assure customers that we are undertaking all necessary measures to ensure that customers continue to experience uninterrupted service.
We wish to thank our customers for their understanding and patience during the affected period. Should you have any questions or require any assistance, you can reach us at @TMConnects or via Everyone Connects Facebook page. We can also be contacted via email at help@tm.com.my. " - original article source

************************************************
Yesterday I can barely surf any international websites and can't watch YouTube Videos properly. But now I think the UNIFI Internet speed has been restored for YouTube but still facing issue on surfing Facebook using UNIFI.

If you were wondering why UNIFI speed so slow in 2016. That's the reason. Hopefully they will able to fix it as soon as possible because it is not cheap to pay for RM179/month. Nobody is willing to pay a big amount of money for a tortoise speed of their home internet right?
