MY PHOTO GOT STOLEN & MISUSED ON FACEBOOK!! #RespectMyPhoto or #RespectMyPM?

What happen when your photo being used online without permission? #RespectMyPhoto

What happen when your photo being used online without permission? #RespectMyPhoto

If you think why I look familiar during our first met, you might have seen my photo taken with KLCC published online. It is good if you saw the photo from my website, but if you saw it somewhere else from Says.com, ViralCham, Instagram Contest, Travel Package Promo in Philippines. or even the recent edited photo with political message to mislead people, all these were used without my permission at first place and the latest one is really too much.

This particular photo was first published through my British Council's blog post. The photo comes with watermark to further telling people that this is copyrighted. Yet, people still stealing this photo to created their desired content by cropping out the watermark and used it for marketing, commercial or even political usage... I've dealed with 3rd party who used my photo without permission for commercial value and they paid compensation at an agreed value in the end.

Apparently there was a digital campaign called #RespectMyPM launched since yesterday and the cybertroopers were doing their best to garner Malaysian's support to our current Prime Minister. I don't mind if they trying to get citizens' support. BUT YOU SHOULD #RESPECTMYPHOTO BEFORE EDIT IT FOR #RESPECTMYPM.

Reported to Facebook but seems like it doesn't violate their Community Standards

I've tried the easiest way to report content on Facebook but FB mentioned that this doesn't violate their "Community Standards". I actually wonder if they understand the Bahasa Malay writing/caption on the photo... Or this is just automated reply from FB...

I've private message REFORMASIN to remove my photo but they just give *thumbs up* as reply...
I've private message REFORMASIN to remove my photo but they just give freaking *thumbs up* as reply...

Reported to both Facebook and CMCF and hopefully they can take action on this kind of IP infringements
I've did everything I could to stop this unhealthy internet sharing and online-content behavior by reporting to Facebook, CMCF and SKMM. Whether they would really take action on this issue I would need to wait for their email reply...

If there's no good response after everything I've done, I guess there's a need looking for a lawyer for their professional advice. If you've bad experience with this copyright infringement and found the solution to deal with it, do feel free to contact me or share it at the comment section below. I believe all netizens deserve the rights to protect themselves from misleading content and unwanted 'surprise'.

[Update: 9th March 9:50pm]
The photo has been removed from two mentioned FB pages at almost same time, so I guess they could be handled by the same admin. I am not sure which ways worked ( awesome friends who mass-report to FB or MCMC, or even just because I blogged bout it and went viral through social media). They never apologise but I am glad it is finally removed from their FB page. Thanks to you awesome friends who reported the image! I really appreciate that! Let's hope my blogpost can be a guideline if it ever happened to anyone. *touchwood* Cheers!

I am still figuring out which way actually worked after so many different ways to submit content/right infringement complaint. Is it they were scared and backed off? Or there was some angels helping me on this. Either way, don't underestimate the power of unity of friends and social media!!

[Update: 10th March 10:00PM]
Today I received email from both Facebook and MCMC. Both their reply were actually the same.

From Facebook: "REFORMASIN! removed this photo before we reviewed your report."
From MCMC: "Semakan pihak kami mendapati kandungan yang diadukan tidak lagi wujud."

Which means the two Facebook Pages already removed it before Facebook and MCMC get to response. Yet I still recommend you guys to report any of your misused photos online to both Facebook and MCMC if this happened to you *touch wood*

Once again, thanks to everyone who reported the photo!! It was you guys who made this issue being solved as soon as possible!! Appreciate your help and do share this out if your friends were facing the similar/same incident that I have been through.
