PETRONAS 2016 CNY Video "Rubber Boy"

Just recently PETRONAS has released their 2016 Chinese New Year video and I was honored to be the first few to watch the premiere of "Rubber Boy" with other media friends at Ciao Ristorante. Rubber Boy is a short film about a boy named Ah Hock, who learnt the values of sacrifice, gratitude and acceptance growing up in a rubber plantation, witnessing his mother's devotion in making a living for the family. I do find myself somehow related to the story because my grandparents were rubber tappers even before I was born. I grown up in a rubber estate hence I know how it feels like living in there. My grandma used to tell me that she and grandpa woke up as early as 4am in the morning to rubber taping and they need to worry about the wild boar/tiger in the forest. My aunt also told me she was once bitten by a huge centipede in the forest before and it was very painful and unforgettable. Rubber tapping is definitely not easy at all.

Knowing the not-easy-at-all process of rubber tapping, I do appreciate what my grandparents and parent did to build this family and eventually brought us to this world with all the comfort food and stay. My grandparents were the one taking care of us while my parents were out for work. I still remember my grandma was fiercely whipping my legs with 'rotan' when she found out me and my sister climbed the mango tree. Imagine you are hanging out at the middle of the tree and your grandma ask you to come down while holding a 'rotan'. It is funny when I reminiscence as I know what she did was to make sure we are safe and to grow up healthily.

PDB Retail Business Division Senior General Manager Shaharuddin Muhammad Sidek, PDB Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Mohd Ibrahimnuddin Mohd Yunus,  and PDB Senior General Manager of Group Strategic Communications, Zahariah Abdul Rahman each did a Chinese Calligraphy with the guidance of a calligraphy mentor.

6-7 and 13-14 February 16

During the event, PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad (PDB) also launched its flagship road safety programme again this year. This time PETRONAS Coffee Break offers even more freshly brewed coffee at 142 participating PETRONAS stations nationwide on 6-7 February and 13-14 February 2016.

Not only that, customers can also receive a 20% discount on brake fluids when they service their vehicles at selected PETRONAS LubeXperts outlets on weekends from 16 January to 7 February 2016.

On a side note, RM20,000 worth of fuel has been contributed by PETRONAS to St. John Ambulance of Malaysia (SJAM) which would provides emergency response services along the major highways this festive season.
