Usually all the events that I've attended need to have casual outfit or formal outfit for a grand event. But this time I was in my beach wear for Nikon Malaysia's latest products hands-on at Sunway Lagoon Theme Park.
Cameras like Nikon D5500 DSLR, Nikon 1 J5, Coolpix P900 and Coolpix S33 were the products for us to try out the other day. I didn't manage to try out most of them since there were limited units and no memory cards in it. The main cast of the day was Nikon Coolpix S33 - a waterproof, shockproof, cold-resistant and dustproof camera that is suitable for beginner who want to take photos easily in their outdoor activities (especially underwater).

There was a photography challenge for members of the media and bloggers. First, we need to capture a photo related to "Splash"and then an underwater photo featuring the S33 as the second challenge.

It is possible to capture precious moments with Nikon Coolpix S33. There are various photography mode that is suitable for outdoor activity and I find the 'continuous shutter' is the most useful if compared to other modes.
Since we need to capture the water splash, quick shutter speed and continuous shutter is a must in a camera. Nikon Coolpix S33 has it and you can take multiple shots by just holding the shutter button. My only complain is the buffer/loading and recording time take a long time. Oh well, we can't expect too much from an underwater camera priced at only USD 129 (approximate RM480).

Nikon Coolpix S33 can produce photo with 13.2-megapixels large, have 3x optical and 6x Dynamic Fine Zoom. It has a CMOS sensor and a NIKKOR lens to ensure good images. NIkon S33 is waterproof up to 10m (good for snorkeling/swimming pool), cold resistant (-10 degree celcius) and dustproof.
Full HD movies can be recorded in 1080p/30fps format too. Easily accessed with the "movie-record"button. There is a
Glamour Retouch function that I didn't try but I do believe nowadays smart camera and smartphone must have this function built-in.

My point is, as long as you have patience, you will able to capture that precious moments you want in a few try. After all, to capture the right water splash with all happy faces in it, that's the challenge. Nikon Coolpix S33 is very easy to navigate with the function buttons right beside the screen. Other than that, I like the curvy and smooth edge on S33 as it looks good and more durable too. (just like smartphone will easily crack at their sharp edge, and now smartphone all have round curvy edge)

I didn't expect the very steep slide in this
Vuvuzela Water Ride @ Sunway Lagoon, but it was really fun when you sliding left and right after the first scary dive. I would like to take the ride again but you gotta queue for it =) Above photos was captured using "Continuous Mode" since many things can happen in just seconds. Oh ya, do open your eyes so you know how the ride looks like and easier to prepare yourself.

If you are a selfie lover, Nikon Coolpix S33 can be used for selfie too. There's a
Smile Detect Camera function and Timer that you can use if you plan to place it on a selfie stick/monopod. I do hope the next generation of S33 has a wider lens so we can fit more people/background into the photo.

We didn't see the blue color Nikon S33 the other day but according to Nikon Malaysia, they are available in four colors - White, Yellow, Pink and Blue.

My Review and Verdicts on Nikon Coolpix S33
As what they have advertised, Nikon Coolpix S33 is an easy-to-use compact weather proof camera suitable for children and family outdoor activities. The buttons and easy-to-access photography mode is good enough to help you capture different kind of photos. I did more in-depth review with the camera after the event and found that S33 has quite a lot useful Scene Mode. Let's check out some of the photo below:

In my opinion, instead of buying a RM1500 waterproof sport camera, you can get this USD129 (around RM480) weatherproof camera that has multiple photography mode for all outdoor activities photoshoot. The only disadvantages are S33 doesn't have super wide angle lens and will definitely take some time to record the photos after continuous shot. It is the waiting time you will need to account for before you continue to take your next shot.
I am glad that Nikon Coolpix S33 has a built in USB port so you can charge it using USB cable or powerbank so you can recharge your camera for continuous usage later.
You can get the brand new
Nikon Coolpix S33 (with FREE 8GB Memory Card and Camera Case) at RM464.28 (including GST) instead of RM480 from
