ALS Ice Bucket Challenge hits Malaysia. Let's donate!
ALS Ice Bucket Challenge by Dave Bautista |
The first time I noticed about this Ice Bucket Challenge was through Instagram videos where people pouring ice bucket to themselves as part of the challenge. Only after I've watched the video by Dave Bautista I learned that this challenge come with a good cause, which is to raise donation to ALS organization.
So what exactly is ALS Ice Bucket Challenge and what are the rules for it?
What is ALS Ice Bucket Challenge?? What are the rules?
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is the fatal neurodegenerative disorder also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. The ice bucket challenge began as an idea to dump a bucket of ice water on your head, or donate $100 to ALS research, and challenge three more to complete the task or donate within 24 hours.
Within 24 hours of being challenged, participants are to video record themselves in continuous footage. First, they are to announce their acceptance of the challenge followed by pouring ice into a bucket of water. The bucket is then to be lifted overhead and poured over the participant's head. Then the participant can call out a challenge to other people.
You can see how professional wrestler Dave Bautista (acted in Guardians of Galaxy) did it with ease while soaking himself in ice bath:
After the Ice Bucket Challenge went viral on social media, public awareness and charitable donations for ALS soared. On August 18, 2014, the ALS Association announced that it had received $15.6 million in donations compared to $1.8 million during the same time period (July 29 to August 18) in the prior year. These donations came from both existing donors and 307,598 new donors to the Association.

As in Malaysia, I've seen quite a lot local celebrities and personalities (eg. Daphne Iking, Amber Chia, Khairy Jamaluddin) who did the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge too. Recently saw Hotlink team at Maxis participate in this challenge too, in response to a challenge posed by local news website Cilisos.my. In terms for the cause to spread locally, Sulin Lau (Maxis’ Head of Marketing Services) challenged three other Malaysian teams in the local internet scene – Cheryl Goh and the myTeksi team, Khailee Ng of Catcha.com, and @melakaboy who manages prominent social media personalities. Below is Hotlink's Ice Bucket Challenge Video:

How to donate to ALS Organisation?
As I aware Malaysia don't have an ALS Organisation so you may donate to www.alsa.org here. I honestly hope that while doing the ice bucket challenge for a good cause, you should donate too =)
Remember to donate to a good cause. |
Since I have some money in my PayPal account, I just did a donation to The ALS Association. Sorry no video of me pouring self with ice bucket =) If you are haters of #ALSIceBucketChallenge, just watch this video by Anthony Carbajal; Or you may wanna watch Ice Bucket Challenge Fail Video for precaution steps before you did these to yourself.
I guess 7-Eleven gonna runs out of ice cubes again.
How to donate to ALSA without Credit Card/Paypal account?
Alright, got reader asked me how to donate money to ALSA if don't have credit card or Paypal account. You can register a Paypal account with your ATM/Debit Card which is VISA/Master Card enabled.(eg.
