ntv7 Golden Awards 2014 will be broadcasted to all Malaysians on 20th September, LIVE from Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC). And before the night arrives, the Top 5 nominees were unveiled at the press conference, bringing us a step closer to crowning the winners. I would like to congrats all Top 5 nominees and wish you all the best in winning the awards!!
Back for the 3rd year, the prestigious awards ceremony that draws together the brightest, most dazzling and talented stars, while recognises and honours the outstanding works of those who have contributed passionately in the Malaysian Chinese TV industry, will continue its pursuit of excellence and quest in driving the industry to greater heights.

Organised by ntv7, Golden Awards 2014 consists of three award categories – Drama, Non-Drama and Viewers’ Choice. A total of 31 awards will be presented on the night itself including three new awards – Best Telemovie, Best TV Drama Montage and Best Programme Montage.

A total of 238 entries were received for Drama category and 144 entries for Non-Drama category. Two rounds of intense judging were held before shortlisting the Top 5 nominees. Leading the pack with the highest number of nominations is blockbuster period drama – The Descendant – with a total of 11 nominations, followed by another period drama Mining Magnet (8 nominations), police procedural series The Undercover (7 nominations), crime and investigative series The Adjuster 2 and sitcom Love Compulsory (5 nominations respectively). All five series are also in the running for the Best Drama award.

Golden Awards 2014 will see a number of fierce competitions with a line-up of strong contenders made up of past winners as well as new and emerging talents. This includes two of the most-watched after categories, Best Actor and Best Actress awards. All eyes will be on past winner Coby Chong who took home the Golden Awards 2012 Best Actor award, as the versatile actor is back in the running for the coveted title – going up against Frederick Lee, Leslie Chai, Jack Yap and Adrian Tan.
Meanwhile, multi-award winning actress Yeo Yann Yann will once again go head to head with the talented Debbie Goh for the Best Actress title, after a tough competition in 2010, with Yann Yann emerging as the winner. They will be competing against Chris Tong, Aenie Wong and Wayne Chua.
In addition to her nomination in the Best Actress category, Yann Yann who was crowned with the Golden Awards 2012 Best Supporting Actress title also received a nomination in the same category this year, going up against Seck Fook Yee, who is also a past winner of this category in Golden Awards 2010. Other contenders include Loo Aye Keng, Lim Ching Miau and rising star Karena Teo. Apart from this, the talented Karena who first entered the TV industry with barely any experience is also nominated for two nominations in the Best Newcomer category for her stellar performance in popular sitcom Love Compulsory and the recent CNY telemovie Lucky Bowl Part 2.
The Best Supporting Actor category is also made up of five exceptional actors including Steve Yap, Lawrence Wong, Freddie Wong, Wilson Chan and Chen Puie Heng.
Meanwhile, the organising committee announces that it has made an error in the nominee shortlist for the Best Director category, minutes after the press conference. As a result Chan Wai Cheong, Director of the telemovie “The Story of Smarty” was mistakenly shortlisted, as only Directors for a drama series are eligible for a nomination.
Moving on to the Non-drama categories, the Top 5 nominees will also be up for some stiff competition with the strong line-up of contenders. Nominees in the Best Variety & Entertainment Programme are Ultimate Power Star 2, Mandarin Battle Star Season 4, Kids Ask Big Question, The Ultimate Song and Rush Hunt.
“We would like to apologise to the Director and those who are involved for the inconvenience this has caused and will work to ensure this situation is handled quickly and effectively for everyone concerned,” said Lai Cheah Yee, Manager, Brand Management Group of ntv7.
This is also the first time that Yann Yann is nominated for Best Variety and Entertainment – Host, with her fun and vibrant hosting in Aunty Must Go Crazy 2. With this, Yann Yann receives a total of three nominations. Competing with her in this category are William San, Chiong Pei Pei, Tiang Kah Chee and Natalie Ng.

Nominees in the Best Magazine Programme category include Listen To The World, Helping Hands Season 2, Folks And Tales, 8 Mini Centuries and A New Journey Season 2, while the Top 5 nominees for Best Magazine Programme – Host are made up of Cheryl Lee, Baki Zainal, Jan Chin and Lynn Lim who received a total of two nominations. Lynn will also be hosting the LIVE awards ceremony on 20th September.
Meanwhile, the Viewers’ Choice category is made up of Most Popular Artiste (Male – Top 5), Most Popular Artiste (Female – Top 5), and Most Popular TV Drama. Winners will be determined by public votes channelled via Golden Awards 2014 official website – www.ntv7.com.my/goldenawards2014 and SMS (GA
