11 Places Photographer Should Visit in Macau [Day]
"Look at the bright side" |
On last Sunday (20 July), we took Airasia flight to Macau for a 3 Days 2 Nights trip. Thanks to Hong Kong drama, my initial impression on Macau is all about casino. But after went there myself, not only Macau has many historical places to visit, they also have great food hidden along the street too. Today I am going to share my 3D2N Macau itinerary as a photographer who love to capture scenery, building architecture and cityscape. This place is amazingly beautiful at night!!
Since we stay in President Hotel in Macau, we decided to start our journey from Senado Square to Guia Fortress and all the way to Venetian at night.
1. Senado Square
The first place that you wanna go will be Senado Square as it is located at the center of Macau. Since we took our flight in 2pm. We reached Macau around 6pm and walked around Senado Square at night.
The square is surrounded by neo-classical buildings painted in soft Portuguese colors. The square's businesses now caters more to tourist as I see Giordano and Sasa has huge store in here.
Senado Squareis one of the most visited place in Macau. Basically from here you will able to travel to other historical place as well. Along the way is St. Domingos Church, Casa de Lou Kau as well as famous bakeries such as Koi Kei Bakery.

2. St. Domingo's Church
You can see St. Domingo's Church litted with bright lights to show its yellowish architecture. You will able to visit the church during day time.

3. Travessa do Roquette 罗结地巷
I find this stretch of road and building looks kinda beautiful at night. Below is how it looks like during day time

4. Catedral de Macau 澳门主教座堂
We visited another church during day time and 'Catedral de Macau' is located at Senado Square area too. It is right after 'Casa de Lou Kau' if you walk from Senado Square.

5. Rua de S. Paulo 大三巴街 (Dasanba Street)
The busiest street I've seen in Macau. It is very crowded but this is the way to Ruins of St. Paul and you must past through it to there. Saw people buying Almond biscuit and meat jerky. I bet it will be expensive since it is one of the tourist spot in Macau.
6. Ruins of St. Paul's Cathedral
Ruins of St. Paul's Cathedral is considered as Macau’s most famous landmark, the ruins of this 16th-century cathedral features a spectacular façade with intricate carvings by Japanese monks. Basically you must visit here to show that you've been to Macau haha

The weather at Ruins of St Paul is quite hot during our visit. Here's a tips for you, enjoy the cold blasting air-conditioner at Cripta Crypt 地下圣堂 【纳骨堂】. You will able to see bones store at the side wall of this room. You might feel creepy if you don't get use to see human bones.

8. Mount Fortress 大炮台
At Mount Fortress you can choose to visit Macau Museum while doing sightseeing at the Fortress area and checking out the Macau city using the binoculars. You will need to prepare Macau shillings to use the binoculars. Do note that Macau Museum close on Monday.
Good place for cityscape photography.

9. Guia Fortress 松山炮台
It is advised that you take the cab all the way uphill to Guia Fortress. We didn't know that it is quite exhausting to walk all the way from Ruins of St. Paul's Catedral to Guia Fortress haha. My girlfriend tired like bunny.

Shirtless runners along the way to Guia Fortress |
It seems like local citizens like to come here for evening run as it is easy to see runners everywhere. Most of them prefer to be shirtless and I was quite amazed that these uncle has six packs too *look at ownselfs one-round-pack* They all took motor ride to here. How I wish I can rent a motorbike to drive around Macau City. Maybe I should include this as my 'To-do-list' in my next Macau visit.

10. Guia Cable Car (Cable Guia)
We did a huge mistake as I didn't check out their operating hour before visit. Guia Cable Car close on every Monday for maintenance. Too bad we didn't manage to take a ride on the cable car. Or else it would be nice to take this short ride have a look at the Macau in the middle of the sky. The cable car connects Jardin da Flora with Parque Municipal da Colina da Guia (on Guia Hill).
Greenery at Guia Hill |
Anyhow, I enjoy the greenery at Guia Hill and you will able to spot a few cats living freely in this hill. Some part of the hill looks mysterious though.

11. Guia Chapel and Lighthouse
The Guia Fortress is part of the Historic City Center of Macau - UNESCO World Heritage Sight. It was built between 1622 to 1638 and occupies the highest point in Macau. It was built to defend Macau against attacks from the sea but also served as a valuable observation post. The most prominent remaining feature is the 15 meter high lighthouse, which is the oldest on the China coast, built in 1895.
In earlier times storm warnings were announced from the bell-tower of Guia chapel. |

If you love the nature side of Macau, Guia Fortress is definitely a place you should visit to experience the forest hidden in the city. High up there you will able to have a view of Macau City and sea. You will definitely need good stamina to visit this place.

Remember to get inside the Guia Chapel as the place is fully air-conditioned and you may enjoy the interior of this historical place.
