Wong Fu Productions Mini Symposium @ Taylor's Lakeside

At last I am blogging about Wong Fu Productions Mini Symposium together with Filemmakers Anonymous who hosting the event. Before I continue, please read my previous coverage as below, exclusive photos and videos included =)

Thanks to Nuffnang and Inspire.ME I got myself a photographer pass. There wasn't any dedicated Photographer Area. Thankfully + luckily Dylan said 'hi' therefore I found a good seat where I can just sit down and snap photos+videos together.

The host used superman's music to welcome both Philip Wang and Wesley Chan. They tried to greet us in Malay 'Apa Khabar'. Basically this mini symposium is for filmmaker and of course WF fans who wanna see them in person early before the 'WONG FU 4 LYFE' event at night.

Sharing during the mini symposium (as I remember):

• How was Wong Fu Productions formed?
• Who is Wong Fu's inspiration? They didn't watch much films because they were busy producing good videos and finally Wesley decided to say Chistopher Nolan.
• How Wong Fu find ideas for video. They note down what they know through personal experience including conversation with friends. Later then sit down, combine ideas and produce a good story line.
• When will Wong Fu bring ISA to Malaysia?
• Sharing about new web series - "Home is where the Hans are"
• How comfortable are Wong Fu being seen as Asian American Filmmakers and representing them? Not much Asian American actors were on the TV and Wong Fu somehow helped them get more exposure through posting video on YouTube. Wong Fu is trying their best to be a good role model helping Asian American (also other talented actors too). Undeniable, it is not easy.
  
• Whether Wong Fu had fight with each other since they had working together for so long. Philip did an instant drama when people asked that question. Nice act haha
  
• Was it difficult to work with set of Lee Hom's "Still in love with you @ 依然爱你" MV? It was difficult in planning, the schedule was insane, but with helps from Taiwan's professional production crews it went smooth & great.
• Wong Fu answered tons of questions from the Wong Fu Fans who attended Mini Symposium that day. I am sure Malaysian Wong Fu fans super appreciate that =) At least I do.
  
• Why do Wong Fu start making Wong Fu Weekends? Wong Fu is trying to produce more frequent update/videos, they are making it better and launching their new WFW season soon.
• How did Wong Fu do the color correction on Lee Hom's Music Video. They were using Final Cut Pro and it was a hard decision for Wesley to choose the suitable "Asian's color". Wesley was glad that people like it.
  
• Was it easy while Wong Fu deciding which course to choose for further study? Philip somehow found his passion through random video posting while Wesley at first decided not to go with film making courses but well he choose it in the end instead of graphic design.
• How to create viral & popular video? First the video must have content, you can share something which is already popular (eg. Shit someone say), make it short (aroud 2 minutes) and make it easy to share.
• Will they shoot videos in Malaysia? Wong Fu said they will plan it in their next trip since this time it was a rush trip. But I saw Wong Fu record videos during the Meet & Greet session so hope Wong Fu will include you guys in their upcoming WFW video.
  
• How Wong Fu find suitable sound track for video? Many friends who are music composer including David Choi helped a lot in choosing sound track..
• What do Wong Fu do when they feel down? Especially when seeing their work/video is not getting much views as expected.
  

Interesting Facts about Wong Fu:

• The name 'Wong Fu Productions' comes from Philip's nickname on AIM Instant Messenger instead of Phil's and Ted's last name.
  
• Wesley's first camera was 640 x 480 resolution digital camera.
• Asian American was labelled with people who know kung fu and have accent.
• It is hard to please everyone. Wong Fu were 'complained' using Asian actor only but being 'complained' of using actors other than Asian too. Wong Fu is trying their best to find the balance.
• Wong Fu also facing difficulties to cope with editing video. [Both sigh at the same time]
• Wesley like grey color and Philip like blue. Oh ya, recently Phil choose a side view picture (taken by me yay) as his profile picture, so I assume he like his photo being snap from the side?

Some behind the scene pictures was shown and then Wong Fu reminisce and share about how they shoot the video with limited budget.

• They find a girl for 'That Girl' MV.
• The formula for David choi's send MV is also to find a girl
• Use what you have to produce the best video, you don't need $50,000 to produce a good video.

Filemmakers Anonymous did a video contest for Wong Fu Fans to submit a video about why they want to come to this Mini Symposium. Total 9 videos submitted and I like the second and third one the most.

Okay, here's the moment Phil noticed Wesley has itchy elbow

There was a mini contest held during the Mini Symposium. XinXian was the first one to answer the question correctly hence she get to choose a Nice Guy shirt. Can I have one too since I blog so well? hahaha

Hooi Hooi, the girl who created the WF video together with Cheryl win stuff again!



Philip was good enough to give her plush toy and gifts for Cheryl too.

The first person who hug Wong Fu that day. I 'smell' some jealousy in the hall. There's a kid who brought back a few Nice Guy T-Shirts all at once. Cool huh?

Still remember Wesley answering the last question by a WF fans about how to overcome sadness because feeling down with work not being appreciated.

Eventually Mini Symposium ended very fast and Wong Fu needed to rush for the Meet & Greet session at somewhere else in Taylor. Some people left the hall quickly just to get into the queue to meet and greet Wong Fu personally. [Will share the Meet & Greet moment in next coming post]

Overall, it would be great if more questions can be answered by Wong Fu during the mini symposium. Anyway, it was great to have talented people like Wong Fu sharing their experience and giving advice right? Hope Wong Fu will keep inspire us.

PS: I recorded a lot videos during the event and will only post it up if someone interested.
