Press Release:
400 participants took the challenge to unravel movie clues and discover treasures while raising funds for Hospis Malaysia recently as they took part in the GSC 100Plus Treasure Hun today. With over RM100, 000 worth prizes to be won, this hunt attracted its fair share of the well-seasoned treasure hunters, novice hunters and also included participants from the cinema chain itself.
This hunt ,as part of GSC’s CSR initiative to be involved with the community and giving back to the society, managed to raise RM150,000 for Hospis Malaysia. The title sponsor was 100PLUS, while main sponsors include Eon Bank, United Carpets, Sine Classics, Lee Choon Engineering Sdn Bhd, Macau Government Tourist Office, Fuji Global Sdn Bhd and PPB Sdn Bhd.
Hospis Malaysia, as a non-profit organization, offers Palliative Care free-of-charge to patients suffering from life limiting illness which may be anything from cancer, AIDS, or motor neuron disease.
GSC Senior Manager, Ms Liew Aing Suan flagged off the motor hunt in 1 Utama Shopping Centre in the early hours of the morning before the hunt ended up in Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) for high tea and results presentation in the evening.
The participants in a total of 100 cars were seen traipsing to key GSC cinemas in Klang Valley and were clearly reminded of the 3R elements – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle as amongst the task they had to undergo was to bring in old newspapers and used 100Plus cans for recycling purposes. They even paid a quick visit to Hospis Malaysia located in Cheras and had to purchase a plant there in order to help “green” the world.
Armed with 100Plus and Mountain Dew mineral water to keep them adequately hydrated, the participants had great fun in the 8-hour long hunt while bonding with their fellow team-mates and treasure hunters.
But at the end of the day, seasoned hunters, Team Space Pirates from Penang (Venkateswaran Nagappan, Eeswaran Kanesalingam, Simon Mathew and Rajj Melambaram) outshone the rest of the pack when they took home the first prize (public category) worth over RM26,000. They won themselves 4D/3N Macau Holiday Packages, 32 “Panasonic Viera LCD TV, GSC VIP card and Appeton Multi Vitamins.

Meanwhile in the press category, Team “Blurr Squad” (Patrick Sennyah, Purwaiz Alam, M K Megan and Ranjettha Pakiam) were proven not blur at all when they were announced champions and won themselves 3D/2N Club Med Cherating and GSC VIP Card. Cinema Online’s Team (Maimunah Johari, Penny Lee Suh Ing, Samantha Huang Mei Surin and Lee Zhang Yang) had to settle for second place with prizes like Panasonic Digital Cameras and GSC VIP Card. In third place was “TV3 Speed Racer” (Diana Daniel, Mohd Azri Atan, Nurul Azura Abd Rahman and Shelizan Dollah) and they were awarded with Osim ipamper Handheld Massager and GSC VIP Cards for their efforts.
Avid first timer, Jason Wee, one of the participants from Team Parang Dou said, “The hunt is indeed challenging for us as first timer; we got confused along the way, but we enjoyed ourselves throughout the hunt.” His team was at 1Utama as early as at 4.30 because they want to be the first car to be flagged off.
Meanwhile, seasoned hunter, Prasath and his team mates (Lanun Inc.) joined the hunt as they were attracted by the prizes said, “Good time management is the main factor to win this hunt; and we wish we had more time to break some of the hard questions. But overall, the hunt was very well organized as compared to some of the hunts we have been through. We don’t need to wait too long for our turn to perform the required tasks throughout the hunt.”
